Creating the climate for change in Stratford and Perth County, Ontario

Working Groups

Join with other volunteers to learn and take action on a range of issues for a green, resilient, and equitable future. Our working groups are supporting the development of a local climate action plan and also exploring actions for urban biodiversity, waste reduction, solidarity with Indigenous peoples, food security, and housing and basic income.

Climate Shoe Strike Sept 2020

On September 25th in Stratford, a climate shoe strike was held in front of City Hall. Organized by a youth-led intergenerational team of volunteers from the Climate Strike Stratford and Climate Momentum networks, the shoe strike was a COVID-safe way to host a public event to mark the Fridays For Future global day of climate action.

Just Recovery Campaign

We need a green and equitable recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic! Over 500 organizations across Canada have come together to advocate for a Just Recovery and local volunteers have joined the movement to ensure that the social and economic recovery puts people and planet first.

Stratford Climate Emergency Declaration

At its February 10, 2019 meeting, Stratford City Council passed a climate emergency declaration as well as an additional motion to set 2030 and 2050 targets for greenhouse gas emissions reductions and report back to the City’s Infrastructure, Transportation and Safety Committee with those targets within three months.

Sept 2019 Stratford Climate Rally

On Friday September 20th 2019, over 100 students walked out from Stratford Secondary and Elementary Schools,St. Michael’s Secondary, and Nancy Campbell Academy. They marched along city streets to Market Square where over 200 people attended for a Fridays for Future rally and eco info fair with local community groups and projects.

Tree Planting

Over more than four decades since 1972, George Finnigan has overseen, along with other Scouting colleagues, the planting of up to 3,000 trees each year in the Stratford area.

Hands-On Learning for Youth

For the past decade, the Avon Maitland District School Board has prioritized experiential learning in the teaching curriculum as a way to connect students to their natural environment, including the Great Lakes MicroPlastics Project.

Clothing, Climate & Re-Use Economies

With more and more light shed on the environmental and social ramifications of “fast fashion” and fashion production, the second-hand clothing economy is taking off.

Renewable Energy Projects

Athlone Farms, owned by the Anderson family, in Perth County just a few minutes southeast of Stratford, is producing 500 kilowatts per day – enough to power 500 houses per day.

Welcome! Climate Momentum is a community-based information hub and a network of eco-minded locals in Stratford, Perth County, Ontario. Our vision is a community engaged in responding to the climate crisis and committed to achieving a carbon-neutral Perth County by 2040.

To build local momentum, we raise awareness, facilitate conversations and connections, and support collaboratively-led events, projects, and advocacy initiatives.
