FOOD
The choices we make about breakfast, lunch and dinner are one of the biggest contributors to our personal carbon footprint. Growing our own food, buying locally and seasonally, reducing our consumption of meat and adopting a more plant-based diet all contribute to less greenhouse gas emissions.
Small changes like Meatless Mondays or more sustainable takeout packaging have a positive impact on our greenhouse gas emissions and planning ahead with root cellars and preserves means we can eat well year-round. By making more environmentally-friendly food choices, you can make a big impact.
We’re lucky in Stratford to have help with the choices we make. From The Local Community Food Centre to the Libraries in Perth County, there are options to explore. Other partners have hints for using up all the food we buy, and ideas for plastic-free storage. It’s a learning curve – but a tasty one!
