Youth are calling on everyone to come out and show their love for the planet and concern about climate change! Join the #FridaysForFuture Planet Parade and Climate Rally on Friday September 20th in Stratford as part of an international day of climate action. Here’s what’s planned locally:

    • Planet Parade – 1pm – from high schools to downtown
    • Climate Rally – 2pm – Market Square
    • Eco Info Fair, Live Music & Art Displays – 2pm to 5pm – Market Square

This event has been organized quickly to be part of international climate rallies and strikes this month led by the #FridaysForFuture youth movement.

A cross-generational team of organizers pulled together to plan the parade, rally, and an informative and inspiring gathering in Market Square.

Please share this call for local organizations, groups, associations, and community leaders to get involved:

Calling all groups, associations, businesses, and community leaders in Stratford and area!

Join us Friday September 20th for the #FridaysForFuture Planet Parade, beginning at 1:00 pm at the Stratford high schools and ending with a rally in the Market Square at 2:00 pm.

This #FridaysForFuture event is a nonpartisan celebration of our planet and call for urgent climate action. Youth leaders, locally and internationally, have asked their communities to join them in support of bold, urgent climate action. Here in Stratford, a cross-generational planning team of 40 volunteers pulled together over the last few weeks to organize a parade, rally, and info fair. We hope you can change your plans for the afternoon of September 20th and join us.

High school students will be walking out of class at 1:00 pm for a sidewalk parade from the schools to the Market Square. They will be walking along Forman to Britannia, Britannia to Mornington, Mornington to Waterloo and across the bridge on Waterloo to Ontario, then Ontario to Downie, and from there to the Market Square.

You can join them anywhere along the parade route, but we’ll have volunteers and music to greet the students at three locations. You can gather to wait and join the students at:

    • the start of the parade on Forman Avenue at Oakdale
    • the old fairgrounds gate by the Britannia St. traffic circle
    • the Falstaff Family Centre on Waterloo at William St.

Come with signs, banners, noisemakers, instruments, props, costumes, and walking shoes! Or come as you are!

For those not parading, join the rally in the Market Square starting at 2pm. Rally speakers include student leaders and other environmentalists. Live music will continue through the afternoon along with interactive art displays and an eco info fair featuring community groups and citizen projects.
